Theme: Modern War

About this game

This improvement on Charles Roberts' self-published breakthrough game Tactics was the first published by the Avalon Hill Co. It retains many features of earlier chess-type games, including a square grid over a map board with various terrain features, and pieces with differing movement and combat abilities. His big change was to allow a player to move all his pieces on a turn and then carry out resulting attacks.

Rules

The pieces are marked with movement points that show how far it can move in a turn, and strength points that determine the odds in a battle. The combat results table has columns for different odds, and a die roll determines the result within the appropriate column.
