About this game
Its pieces are Napoleonic miniatures, but this game was published in September 1914 “to raise a memory of the wars heroically led by Germany and Austria a hundred years ago and today”. The board is 5 columns wide, with three ranks on each side. It is the first game to capture friction of war. Pieces double and triple in value as they close with the enemy, but are correspondingly harder to move. Miniatures include infantry, cavalry and artillery. Leaders are Napoleon and Blucher.

Dice-aided Movement
Rules
The rulebook is 32 pages long. Pieces vary in base value from 1 to 10. Players roll 3D6 per turn for total movement allowance (piece value x rank moved to). Players attack by column, adding piece values modified by rank. High total wins, inflicting casualties equal to difference. Elimination counts for rank-modified value; retreats base value only. One-column skirmishes and 3-column battles lead to "decisive battle" that totals the value of all pieces remaining on the board.
