About this game

The title is an acronym "Feldgraue rangen in Ehren, gewannen unsterblichen Ruhm” (“Field grays fight with honor, gaining immortal fame”) and it was published by an ethnic German in Danzig just after Hitler came to power. The chess-like board is 15 wide by 14 deep, with blocks of 6 dark brown squares forming an X across the board. The playing pieces in red and black bakelite are huge (up to 92mm/3.6" high).

Rules

Pieces include infantry, cavalry, tanks, artillery, airplanes, Leader and Flag. All moves are orthoganal (forward, back or sideways) by a variable number of squares. Pieces can only be eliminated by a combination of two attacking units. There are five ways to win: occupy five spaces of the opponent’s home territory; leave the enemy with fewer than five ground pieces; eliminate all enemy infantry; eliminate the enemy leader; or leave the enemy without a legal move.
