About this game
The game details the innovations of Sebastien Le Prestre de Vauban, who revolutionized the art of fortification after the end of the Franco-Spanish war in 1659. It was designed by one of his fellow Royal Engineers, Gilles Jodelet, sieur dee La Boissière. Each of the spaces names, describes and illustrates an aspect of his designs. It was dedicated to students at the Royal Military School. This edition by Daumont & Crepy was published in 1712.

Rules
The game can be played as a standard race along a 53-space track to the completed fortress in the middle. However, each of the spaces also shows a miniature playing card, and the game was designed to be cut up into a deck that could play standard card games or be used for educational purposes. For example, see the copy of a later game by the same designer, Le Jeu de la Guerre, in the French National Library at https://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/btv1b105274765
