About this game

Belagerungsspiel (Siege Game) is a classic asymmetrical move and jump game. It features a cross-shaped board with 33 points connected by orthogonal and diagonal lines. The top arm of the cross (9 spaces) is shown as the castle to be defended. The game was first published in Germany during the Napoleonic era has been published in many languages and with many visual themes since then. The generic game also is known as Festungsspiel (Fortress Game).

Rules

The defender has two pieces, placed anywhere on the 9-space fortress area. The attacker has 24 pieces, placed everywhere outside the fortress. Attacking pieces may move along any path toward the fortress, but only into empty spaces. The defenders capture attacking pieces by jumping over as in checkers. The attackers win by occupying all 9 fortress spaces; the defenders by capturing all but 8 attackers.
